It’s early. The sun has not yet rose over the horizon to shed its rays upon my dark world. I sit before my keyboard in a house that is almost completely silent except for the faint gurgling of the coffee maker. So while I wait for a new dawn to announce that it’s time to begin the day, I will tell you a story.

It’s during the early morning hours when I am most eager to write. My mind is fresh and usually clear of the previous day’s worries. My fingers literally itch to hit the keyboard and type out the numerous thoughts that freely drift into my mind. I am an addict to this wonderful gift that has plagued my life. Being a writer is a lonely, time-consuming, maddening, enlightening, and frightful lifestyle, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Creating makes my soul sing.

Never Stop Striving For Success!

At this moment, I wish I could say that my life is where I want it to be. But it’s not. Like everyone else, I have battles in my personal life that I am striving to overcome. For the first time in my life, I am on my own. I cannot rely on anyone but myself to make my dreams a reality. It’s scary most days and difficult to stay positive sometimes, but I can’t give up. As Winston Churchill said, “Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm.”

I am overjoyed to announce the release of my second contemporary romance novel, I Will Keep You Safe.  This story came to me the same night I finished the first draft of Charlotte’s War. I remember I had typed the last sentence of Charlotte’s War, did my happy dance, and went to bed with my mind joyfully humming. I was tired, but also ecstatic that I had finally written an entire novel. Ten minutes after my head hit the pillow, I heard a new voice in my head.

Art Should Evoke Emotion

“Just so you know, I am really not liking Jake at the moment,” said my best friend with a disapproving glare. I smiled mischievously and looked away from her. She was referring to Jake Hansen who is the leading man in my second novel, I will Keep You Safe.  I knew exactly where she was in the book the moment she voiced her dislike of my character. In the middle. Because that tends to be the place where the characters of my stories usually do something disturbing and unexpected.

A Writer’s Mind Hosts A Multitude Of People

First and foremost, I apologize for being absent for so long on this blog, but I have an excellent excuse…I’ve been writing. As some of you may know, I have several first drafts collecting digital dust on my computer as well as a swarm of ideas for future stories. When I’m with a group of friends, my mind sometimes wanders off to my WIP and, instead of thinking I’m being rude or bored with their conversation, my friends smile and permit me to ponder my thoughts. It’s because they understand that my characters reside within me and…sometimes…they demand my attention.

Nothing pleases an artist more than to learn their hard work is admired and appreciated. As some of you may know, I’ve been neglecting my blog lately to add the finishing touches to my upcoming contemporary romance, I Will Keep You Safe, which should be available for purchase within the next week or so. It’s been a year this month since I published my first novel, Charlotte’s War, so I am happy that I have been able to stick to my goal of publishing at least one book a year. In the past, I wasn’t able to promote the book as much as I wanted to which resulted in it not receiving any reviews. That is no longer the case. Today…this author is smiling.
